Law and Stella Award in Indonesia Today

Channel Rakyat.Somehow the victims of sexual harassment were actually sent to jail, and various other unique cases reminded me of the Stella Award. A gift given to a legal verdict that was considered 'crazy' throughout 2002 to 2007, compiled by Randy Cassingham.

Stella's name was taken from one of the legal decisions won by a 79-year-old grandmother named Stella Liebeck. In 1992, the grandmother sued Mc Donald for burns she suffered and received compensation of up to billions of rupiah.

What made this case special, Stella suffered burns because her thighs were crushed by hot coffee she bought at Mc Donald, after putting the coffee on her thigh while in her grandson's car.

Even though in reason, what happened was his own negligence. However, the jury in the New Jersey court ruled that Mc Donald must provide compensation.

The above events inspired the tradition of Stella Award. Then, how weird and crazy are the cases that get the Stella Award? Next, we look at various cases from the Stella Award recipient list revealed by JD Journal.

In 2002, the Stella Award was given to the sisters Janice Bird, Dayle Bird, and Kim Bird Moran who demanded that the doctor examine their mother, after visiting the mother at the hospital. Strangely, the demands that arise are not due to practical or malpractice errors, but because the three siblings felt emotionally stressed when they saw the mother enter the emergency room. The case of the siblings had continued until the Supreme Court before thanksgiving was finally rejected by the Supreme Court.

The following year, a policeman in Mandera, California, was released on charges of killing one suspect. At that time the victim was in the back seat of the car in handcuffs and often kicked the chair in front of him.

To calm down, the police took a shock weapon with the intention of shocking him. But for some reason this apparatus made a mistake, not a shock weapon that was taken but a gun, so casualties fell.

Strangely, the court did not declare the police guilty, instead instead suing the shocking weapons company that was deemed to have made a fatal mistake. Maybe it's because of the shape that resembles a gun?

Furthermore, Mary Ubaidi from Illinois, in 2004 was chosen as the Stella Award recipient. The reason, he sued Mazda because of injuries sustained due to an accident.

The injury occurred because he did not wear a seatbelt, and he filed a lawsuit because Mazda did not give instructions on how to wear a seatbelt - while the person stated that he had never used a seatbelt before.

Next was elected Christopher Rooller, in 2005, as a Stella Award recipient for claiming to be God. Not only that, he demanded that magician David Coperfield and David Blain, royalty for his second action on the stage - according to him - steal God's ability.

In 2006, Allen Ray Heckard, who felt very similar to Michael Jordan, demanded that the Basketball and Nike legends pay themselves, because the similarities had personal consequences.

The subsequent Stella Award in 2007 was awarded to Roy L Pearson Jr., who sued a laundry company, which removed his pants. No half-hearted money demanded worth 65 million US dollars or about one trillion rupiah. Even stranger, Pearson is a judge in Washington.

Actually besides the above, there are still various fake versions of Stella award, in a sense not compiled directly by comedian Randy Cassingham. However, many of them are legal cases that are even more ridiculous and unreasonable.

What about legal phenomena in the country? Does everything go according to the principle of justice, or is there something very implausible and worthy of getting a kind of Stella Award?

Although what happened in the country, including the latest cases, was observed by various parties in the community as an inequality, not the strange demands of the victim's victim. On the contrary.

Then maybe it's the opposite of the Stella Award? Then, what is the right name for this gift in Indonesia? Prita Award, Cicak Buaya Award, or Nuril Award?

It might sound silly, but instead of causing a smile or laugh, the idea just made me dumbfounded.
